The beach and dunes in Holland are magical. You imagine yourself in a different world. The healthy sea air and the hilly dunes let you experience how beautiful Holland is.


The almost 40 kilometers long coastal strip in the west side of the Bollenstreek is known as one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. You will find lovely quiet places where you can really enjoy nature. The four beach resorts Scheveningen, Noordwijk, Zandvoort and Katwijk provide very nice facilities. There are a lot of beach clubs where you can often enjoy a snack and drink with a view of the North Sea throughout the year.

The beach & the dune area

There are several dune areas in the Bollenstreek and surroundings. In the north, between Noordwijk and Zandvoort the 3400 ha. large Amsterdam Waterleidingduinen area a must visit. In the south you will find the Panbos and Meijendal.

At Noordwijkerhout you will find the Blinker area and 7 kilometers of land where you will find the unique Keukenhofbosch where you can still experience the old dunes.

Cycling and walking along the beach and through the dunes

An extensive walking and cycling hub network has been set up in the Bollenstreek, making it very easy to create and follow a cycle route or walking route.

Hotel at the beach

Would you like to be able to enjoy the Bollenstreek relaxed? Then consider booking a hotel or bed & breakfast. There is a very wide choice from luxury hotels to cozy bed and breakfasts. For families there are nice holiday parks and campsites. And what about an overnight stay on the beach? Every beach season there are more than 80 beach houses on the beach where you can fall asleep with the sun setting in the sea. In short, there is a suitable overnight location for every person.

The beach and dune area are of course magnificent, but there is much more to discover in the bulb-growing region.

  • Flower Fields in Holland – For more than 400 years, the region is known as the best place in the world for growing flower bulbs such as tulips. The excavated old dunes turned out to have exactly the right ingredients to grow flower bulbs. This area has thus become the center of the flower bulb trade.
  • Dutch Lakes & Windmills – To the east of the Bollenstreek you will find the most beautiful polders and ponds of the Netherlands. It is the area with the most windmills in the Netherlands. There are many small-scale farms where you can experience typical Dutch production such as cheese, milk and tulips.
  • Cities in Holland – Around the Bollenstreek you will find the oldest cities in the Netherlands. You can visit cities such as Amsterdam, Haarlem, Leiden and The Hague within half an hour’s drive. But also Delft, Rotterdam and Utrecht can be visited in less than an hour.
